About the Project

San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) is located on Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. The largest inpatient medical facility (738,000 ft2) in the Department of Defense provides patient care, graduate medical education and research, as well as taking care of wounded service members.

The Challenge

RTKL Associates needed to find a way to help keep the glare and heat of the Texas sun out of the San Antonio Military Medical Center Fort Sam building.

The Solution

The solution was found in Construction Specialties' extensive Sunshade system where diffused natural light can still enter the building promoting good health and productivity. Patients and employees enjoy increased comfort and access to natural light while canopy shields pedestrian’s from strong Texas sun.
